How to sign a PDF online, without printing it.
You don't need to print, sign and scan a PDF. Upload it, mark where people sign, and send a secure link. Each signer signs in their browser and you get the finished copy back, usually within minutes.
The short version
- Upload the PDF (a Word file works too), or start from a template you saved earlier.
- Place the fields: a signature, the date and any text the signer needs to fill in.
- Send a secure link by entering the signer's name and email.
- The signer opens the link, reviews the document and signs on a phone or computer. There's no app to install and no account to create.
- Download the signed PDF, with a timestamp for each step: sent, signed and completed.
Before you send
- Check the final version. Send the version you want signed. If anything changes later, send it again so the signed copy matches.
- Use the signer's real email address. The link goes there, and the record shows who signed and when.
- Mark every place that needs a signature or initials, and add a date field so nobody has to write it in by hand.
- Save documents you send often as templates. Next time you pick the template, add a name and email, and send.
Typing your name on a PDF isn't the same as getting it signed
You can type or draw a signature onto a PDF in many PDF readers. That puts a mark on the page, but it doesn't record who signed, when, or whether the file changed afterwards. When an agreement matters, a signing service gives you that record: a timestamped audit trail for every document. That record is what helps show the signature is genuine if anyone asks later.

More guides
Questions, answered.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Signers open the secure link on any phone, tablet or computer and sign in the browser. There is nothing to install.
Does the person signing need an account?
No. They open the link from their email, review the document and sign. Only the sender needs an EaseSignature account.
What file types can I send?
PDF and Word files. You can also save a document you send often as a template and reuse it.
How do I know when it has been signed?
Each step is recorded with a timestamp (sent, signed and completed), and you can download the finished, signed copy.
Is a PDF signed online legally binding?
In most cases, yes. In the United States the ESIGN Act and UETA give electronic signatures the same legal effect as handwritten ones for most documents, and many other countries have similar rules. This is general information, not legal advice.
